MATERIAL TRACEABILITY

Material selection and traceability are important elements of pressure-equipment manufacturing.

Depending on the project requirements, material control can include:

INSPECTION & TESTING

VERIFYING PRESSURE EQUIPMENT BEFORE RELEASE

Pressure equipment requires controlled inspection throughout manufacturing.

Depending on the approved inspection plan, activities may include:

DIMENSIONAL INSPECTION

Verification of vessel dimensions, nozzle locations, connections and critical tolerances.

VISUAL INSPECTION

Inspection of fabrication, welds, surfaces and components.

PMI

Positive Material Identification where required.

NDT

Applicable non-destructive examination such as UT, RT or other specified methods.

PRESSURE TESTING

Applicable hydrostatic or other approved pressure-testing procedures.

FINAL INSPECTION

Final verification before equipment release.

PED CONFORMITY ASSESSMENT


PED conformity assessment is dependent on the equipment's classification and applicable requirements.

Factors that may influence the conformity-assessment route include:

  • Applicable conformity-assessment module

For each project, the applicable requirements should be established before manufacturing and incorporated into the project quality and technical documentation.
